Three Stars Cafe in Patan Durbar Square- Lets Rip off the tourists.

In Patan Durbar square is a restaurant called Three Star Cafe. It is the worst restaurant I have ever visited. Firstly almost all the food and drink we ordered was not available. We ended up with a beer and a plate of French fries between us. When we came to pay we asked to pay in USA dollars. No problem except they charged us over twice the price for the meal and drink. When we questioned the exchange rate, they said they could charge what they liked. We had no choice but to pay. An appalling restaurant who does not deserve to exist. Don't go!

Patan durbar square. Get a guide for best experience

There are actually three Durbar Squares in Kathmandu, this is the Patan square, the smallest and least busy of the three. We visited here as it was recommended for an afternoon activity. We were dropped off via taxi at a side street and told to keep walking through the streets of stalls and restaurants until we found the square. Once we arrived it has hard to miss. As we stepped into the square we realised it was bigger and more vast than we imagined but luckily, Stuart, a tour guide, approached us. We had a think and decided it was best to be guided, and it was the best thing we did. He was knowledgeable and patient, he took us to the main temples and told us about the culture and history. It was really interesting. He was energetic and charming. Once our tour finished, he even helped us to find a cool little Newari cuisine spot, literally a tint place in a back street where a lady sat with one stove and cooked us some really traditional foods. In general the Patan temples are the most breathtaking of the three, but they were still beautiful, the market close by was interesting to look around and Stuart really helped. His contact below. Newar

Peak historical and cultural center for Newaris. Full of amazing architecture, a museum and always people mulling around, you can really get a taste of the heritage here & find some amazing side streets to wonder around.

Nice town to walk around, great photo opportunities when you wander the streets. Nice temples. However, I find the fee to walk around very high considering it’s a town…yes there are temples to see but it just left me with the impression of being taken advantage of just because we are foreigners while locals just walk and drive around everyday. I understand it goes to maintain the place and their economy, but is the high price really justified? At least make it pedestrian only so we can enjoy better without always having a motorcycle behind us all the time…

This is the best Durbar Square among the three in Kathmandu area. The typical Nepalese architecture can be seen in construction of temples and houses. The devastating earthquake in Nepal ruined most of the constructions. However, some of those have been reconstructed using same architecture and the reconstruction work is still in progress for remaining structures.

Huge historic square with tons of culture & loads to see. Take a map & take your time - there’s shops, cafes and a lot to see just off the square. Venture into the side alleys for the best experiences & interactions. Steer clear of scam tour guides.
